The Troy State University Department of Speech and Theatre
will premier its production of “Antigone” Oct. 8 at 7:30 p.m. in the Trojan Center
Theatre. The production will also be performed Oct. 10 and 13 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets
are $5 for general admission and students get in free with a valid Troy University ID. Tickets
may be purchased at the Trojan Center Box Office. For more information, contact

“Antigone,” written by Sophocles in 440 B.C., revolves around
a Greek woman’s devotion to her brother during a time of rebellion and warfare
in ancient Thebes.
The production includes a score composed by Troy University student Thomas
Newman of Hawkinsville, Ga., and will be performed by a live orchestra composed
mostly of Troy University music students. The costumes that will be used in “Antigone” were
designed by Jessica Culpepper, a Troy University student from Montgomery. It also features
a full-scale war that was choreographed by Troy University adjunct professor Mike Rhyne, who
specializes in combat scenes. “This production is a fundamental piece of literature
and we have made it unique in that so much of the preparatory work was done by
students,” Adena Moree, director of the department of speech and theatre, said.

Jeremy Byars of Dothan as Teiresias.
Erin Turner of Birmingham as Choragus.
Wayne Taylor of Sandersville, Ga. as Choragus.
Leah Williams of Daphne as Eurydice.
Heather Pennington of Birmingham as Odes.
Marc Alewine of Montgomery as Eteocles. He also served as production designer.
Christopher Minton of Naples, Texas as Polyneices .
Chris Rich of Troy served as the scenic and lighting designer, while Jill Chester of Troy was the principal choreographer.
The members of the chorus are Michael Smith of Birmingham, Tara Golson and Zandra Hall of Montgomery, Brandy Wells of Columbus, Ga., Jane Cornelius of Birmingham, Courtney West of Daphne, Michael Lang of Montgomery, Timothy Griffin of Smiths Station and Thomas Newman of Hawkinsville, Ga.
