Dance Admission & Scholarship Auditions

Dance B.F.A. | TROY Dance Theatre Ensemble | TROY Repertory Dance Company

Selected by audition either on campus or in a screening in your area, this highly selective program and ensembles train and perform in all genres and styles.

    Musical Theatre & Tap

The Dance Audition will include 45-60 minutes of ballet; 30-40 minutes of jazz; and 30-40 minutes of modern/contemporary.

Optional Solo

90 seconds to 2 ½ minutes.  Unless you are a very strong ballet dancer, you may be asked to perform a solo which allows you to showcase the style with which you are most comfortable.

NOTE: Concerning your dance resume, include all dance intensives beginning with your ninth grade year; teacher with whom you have studied for more than three class sessions; performances of merit and roles danced; dance titles and awards won.

Join TROY Dance on any of the following dates and experience a little of what it’s like to be a TROY Dance Major in the Department of Theatre and Dance.

2019 September 9 and 23; October 3 and 14; November 7 and 18
2020 January 13 and 22; February 17; March 2 and 25; April 9 and 13

· Participate in our Creative Habit or Introduction to Theatre Courses
· Work with our Dance Faculty· Dance with old friends and make new ones

· Audition for the BFA in Dance Program: In order to use a participation day in lieu of scheduled audition dates, you must participate at least twice during the year by January 22.

Taking full classes with dancers and dance faculty with whom you will be working throughout your college experience gives you a far better understanding of whether our program is a good fit for you. Because choosing the right dance major is vital to your collegiate success and future career, we encourage you to take this opportunity and inform your choice!

Theatre Scholarship Auditions & Interviews

Actors only

Prepare two contrasting monologues; total of 2 minutes.

Musical Theatre

In addition to the two contrasting monologues above, add a ballad and an up-tempo song (preferably from musical theatre). Prepare 16 measures for each. Bring sheet music taped in a file folder in appropriate key and tempo and clearly identify beginning and end points. An accompanist will be provided.

Technicians/Designers/Stage Managers

Bring your portfolio materials; prepare a 5 minute presentation to introduce your work and interests.

Theatre Education

Please prepare to audition and/or interview in performance, design, technology, or management.  Additional questions or conversations about your Theatre Education interests will be included as well.


Dress professionally in clothing which allows you to move freely, feel comfortable, and present the best version of yourself.

Auditionees are encouraged to showcase in all areas that apply to them. Strong vocalists are encouraged to audition in the Long School of Music for performance ensembles and additional scholarship awards.  Contact for more information.
